Evercare provides radiotherapy to over 2,500 cancer patients in Chattogram

Evercare Hospital Chittagong has achieved an important milestone in ensuring world-class medical services for the people of Chattogram and surrounding areas in cancer treatment.
The information was disclosed in a press meet organized to highlight the success and achievements of their radiotherapy services on the occasion of World Radiotherapy Awareness Day at Evercare Hospital Chittagong.
More than 2,500 cancer patients have been given radiotherapy since the launch of the Comprehensive Cancer Care Centre in June of 2023 in the hospital. At the same time, 6 bone marrow transplantations have been successfully completed.
Cancer patients in Chittagong and surrounding districts used to have to travel to Dhaka or abroad for advanced treatment for a long time. With the aim of changing this reality, Evercare Hospital Chittagong launched the first and only Comprehensive Cancer Care Centre in the region. Currently, the centre is providing integrated medical services of medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, hematology, bone marrow transplantation and palliative care.
Radiotherapy treatment plans are made here according to the type, location and treatment needs of the patient’s cancer. There is an opportunity to use modern radiation technologies such as IMRT, VMAT, Hypofractionated Radiotherapy, Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT) and Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRT) as required. In addition, patients suffering from complex blood diseases and cancer are also being treated through Haematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation services.
In the press meet, Group Medical Director of Evercare Hospitals, Bangladesh Dr. Arif Mahmud said, “Apart from modern technology, a skilled and integrated medical team is important in cancer treatment. Ensuring safe and quality treatment for patients is our main goal.”
Visiting Senior Consultant of Medical and Radiation Oncology Professor Dr. Sajjad Mohammad Yusuf said, “Our main goal is to create opportunities for advanced cancer treatment in Chattogram. Being able to provide radiotherapy to more than 2,500 patients is an important achievement in fulfilling that goal.”
Consultant and Radiotherapy Service Coordinator Dr. Tanvir Ahmed said, “Integrated treatment of various specialists according to the needs of the patient is important in cancer treatment. That integrated service is being ensured at our centre.”
Director of Medical Services at Evercare Hospital Chittagong Dr. Hasan Shahriar Kabir said, “Modern technology and coordination of various specialists are very important in cancer treatment. Evercare has created the opportunity for that integrated treatment for patients in Chattogram.”
Visiting Consultant of Medical and Radiation Oncology Dr. Bhaskar Chakraborty, Consultant of Medical and Radiation Oncology Dr. Hasnina Akhter, Attending Consultant of Medical and Radiation Oncology Dr. Nayan Bhowmik and Consultant of Hematology and BMT Centre, Cancer Care Centre of Evercare Hospital Chittagong Dr. Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury, among others, were present on the occasion.
The hospital authorities said, efforts will continue to expand the scope of services for cancer patients through modern technology, specialist doctors and integrated medical services in the future.
