Prime Minister Meets Families of Martyred Soldiers from Hathazari Tank Firing Incident

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman met with the family members of two army personnel martyred during a tank firing shell explosion at the Hathazari Field Firing Range in Chattogram. During the meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon on Tuesday morning, the Prime Minister presented financial assistance checks to the bereaved families and assured them of continuous support from both the government and the Bangladesh Army.

Speaking with the families, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman expressed his deep condolences and paid tribute to the fallen soldiers. “Our army personnel gave their lives in the line of duty for the nation. They are martyrs for our country, and the nation will remember their sacrifice with profound respect,” he said. He added that the government and the military would remain steadfast in supporting the families, taking full responsibility for their long-term welfare.

Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Siplu confirmed the details of the event. The Prime Minister’s wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman, and senior military officers were also present.

During the interaction, it was announced that the Bangladesh Army will construct a permanent residence for each of the two families at their home addresses. Furthermore, employment opportunities will be arranged for the widows of the martyred soldiers, along with monthly allowances for their children.

The tragedy occurred on September 9, 2026, when a shell exploded during a tank firing exercise at the Hathazari Field Firing Range, claiming the lives of Soldier (Operator) Abu Bakar Siddique and Soldier (Gunner) Md. Tasnim Rifayat.

Attending the meeting on behalf of late Abu Bakar Siddique were his wife Suraiya Akter Juti, infant daughter Fatema Siddika, father Abdul Wahab, and mother Parveen Akter. Late Md. Tasnim Rifayat’s family was represented by his wife Mst. Fahmida Afrin, infant daughter Rafsa Tasnim Ifra, and father Md. Asadul Haque.
