Chattogram DC Calls for Safe Food Standards to Relieve Hospital Burden

Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah emphasized the importance of ensuring safe food and prioritizing disease prevention to reduce patient pressure on hospitals. He made the remarks on Saturday (September 19, 2026) following a special sanitation drive and awareness rally across restaurants in Chattogram.

The Deputy Commissioner stressed that rather than focusing solely on expanding medical facilities, hygiene and safety must be strictly ensured at every stage—from food production and preparation to storage and serving. He expressed optimism that Chattogram could lead the nation in launching such a public health initiative. He also announced that restaurants have been granted until September 24 to make necessary corrections regarding kitchen hygiene, food handling, storage, and overall cleanliness.

Speaking at the event, Member of Parliament for Chattogram-9 Mohammad Abu Sufian underscored the necessity of regular medical check-ups and valid health certificates for all personnel involved in cooking and serving food in restaurants.
