Drowning Claims Life of 12-Year-Old Madrasa Student in Rangunia

A 12-year-old madrasa student named Md. Minhaj died after accidentally falling into the Rajkhali Canal in Rangunia Upazila on Saturday morning (September 26, 2026). The incident occurred around 9:00 AM at the Khatibnagar area under Ward No. 2 of Islampur Union.

Minhaj, son of Md. Ibrahim of the local area, was a student in the Hifz department of Islampur Taiyabia Taheria Sattaria Sunnia Madrasa.

According to local sources, Minhaj’s mother had brought him home from the madrasa three days prior on sick leave for medical treatment, and he was scheduled to return to his studies later that morning. Before his planned departure, Minhaj went out riding bicycles with his friends. While traveling along the banks of the Rajkhali Canal on a friend’s bicycle, he lost control and tumbled into the water. A companion noticed him missing and raised an alarm, prompting local residents to rush to the scene.

Locals rescued the boy and immediately rushed him to the Rangamati Medical College Hospital, where the attending physician declared him dead on arrival.

Confirming the tragedy, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rangunia Model Police Station Md. Zohir Uddin stated that preliminary investigations and local accounts indicate the child inadvertently fell into the canal while riding the bicycle and subsequently drowned.
