The Mayor made the remarks as the chief guest at a check-distribution program held on Thursday morning (October 15, 2026) at the Theatre Institute Chattogram, where financial grant checks were formally handed over to the presidents and general secretaries of 294 Durga Puja mandaps across the port city ahead of the upcoming Sharadiya Durga Puja festival.

Dr. Shahadat Hossain stated that religious festivals strengthen bonds of harmony, camaraderie, and mutual cooperation among communities. He affirmed that Chattogram remains a beacon of communal harmony, where members of all religious faiths must be enabled to celebrate their respective festivities safely and without disruption. He highlighted that transforming Chattogram into a ‘Safe City’ involves creating an environment where every individual can move freely and celebrate religious occasions without fear.
