Prompt hospitalisation increases recovery chance for stroke patients

🩺 Evercare Hospital Chattogram, the largest hospital in the port city, organised a patient forum and an awareness rally today to mark World Stroke Day 2026.
Aligned with this year’s World Stroke Day theme, “Every Minute Counts,” the hospital authorities launched an “ACT-FAST” campaign. The primary objective of this initiative is to help people easily recognise the symptoms of a stroke and ensure that patients receive immediate emergency medical care.
🩺 Speaking on the occasion, Chief Operating Officer of Evercare Hospital Chattogram Vinay Kaul said, “A stroke is a medical emergency where time can be either your greatest ally or your worst enemy. Getting a patient to the hospital quickly improves their chances of recovery while any delay increases the risks. Therefore, it is vital to be well-informed about the symptoms of a stroke and the necessary steps to take.” He hoped that this patient forum and rally would help raise greater awareness among the general public.
🩺 Director of Medical Services at Evercare Hospitals Bangladesh Dr. Hasan Shahriar Kabir said, “This year’s theme reminds us that every minute is vital when it comes to a stroke. A delay in recognising the symptoms reduces the patient’s chances of recovery and even survival.” He emphasised the importance of collective efforts to increase public awareness regarding strokes.
🩺 Senior Consultant and Coordinator of the Neurosurgery Department at Evercare Hospital Chattogram Dr. Md. Anisul Islam Khan said, “If symptoms of a stroke appear, it is essential to seek medical attention immediately without delay. Reaching the hospital on time allows for interventions such as surgery or thrombolysis which can significantly improve the patient’s chances of recovery. Consequently, raising public awareness about identifying stroke symptoms and taking swift action is of utmost importance.”
🩺 Consultant and Coordinator of the Neurology Department at Evercare Hospital Chattogram Dr. Somen Chowdhury said, “Globally, one in four people is at risk of a stroke. Symptoms such as facial drooping, numbness or weakness in the limbs and slurred speech are typical indicators of a stroke. When a stroke occurs, brain cells begin to perish with every passing minute. Seeking timely medical attention at a hospital increases the chances of saving the patient’s life and facilitating their recovery.” He noted that this event was organised to raise awareness about this issue.
🩺 Senior Consultant in the Department of Neurosurgery Dr. Aminur Rahman (Azad) and Attending Consultant in Neurology Dr. Mohammad Anwarul Azim Chowdhury, among others, were present in the event.
🩺 Following the patient forum, an awareness rally was brought out with the participation of guests, physicians, medical staff, patients’ relatives and local residents.
