A 4.1 magnitude earthquake was felt in the southwestern part of the country, the epicenter was Satkhira.

An earthquake was felt in the southwestern part of the country on Tuesday. According to sources from the Earthquake Observation Center of the Meteorological Department, the earthquake was felt at 4:36:46 am today.

The Meteorological Department said in a statement that the epicenter of the earthquake was in Kalaroa upazila of coastal Satkhira district, 175 kilometers southwest of Dhaka. The magnitude of the earthquake was 4.1 on the Richter scale.

The Meteorological Department described this earthquake as ‘low-magnitude’.

Rubaiyat Kabir, the officer-in-charge of the Meteorological Department’s Earthquake Monitoring Center, told Prothom Alo today that the area where the earthquake occurred is identified as a low-risk area. The earthquake that occurred here is already mild. Earthquakes have occurred here before. There is no reason to be alarmed about this.
