Nazmul Hossain Shanto was leading Bangladesh in all three formats. He voluntarily relinquished the T20I responsibility, and the BCB then removed him from the ODI leadership. Shanto claimed that the BCB removed him from the ODI responsibility without consulting him. Out of this arrogance, he relinquished the Test captaincy.
Shanto announced his resignation from the captaincy after losing by an innings and 78 runs to Sri Lanka in Colombo last June. Since then, the post has been vacant, and Bangladesh has not played any more Tests. Next month, they will play in this format again against Ireland. The first match will be held in Sylhet on November 11, and the second in Dhaka on November 19.
Who will the BCB give the responsibility to? In this regard, board president Aminul Islam Bulbul said yesterday, “We will talk to 3-4 people. Those who are in cricket operations will talk, those who are selectors will talk, and those who are at the higher levels of the coaching staff will also talk. It will not be whoever they consider worthy, the captain will also have to agree. We will know their wishes, consider whether they match the benchmark of captaincy, and then we will take a decision.”
Today, BCB Director and Chairman of Cricket Operations Nazmul Abedin Fahim said that the name of the new captain will be announced within 3 to 4 days. Facing the journalists, he said, ‘The new Test captain will be named within 3-4 days.’
The second Test against Ireland will be Mushfiqur Rahim’s 100th Test. He is the first Bangladeshi to reach this prestigious milestone. The BCB will organize a reception on the occasion. Fahim said that plans are underway around Mushfiqur’s 100th Test. He will be given a reception.
