Dhaka’s air is ‘unhealthy’ even in the bitter winter

Air pollution is increasing day by day in various cities of the world. Megacity Dhaka has also been suffering from air pollution for a long time. A few days ago, the city’s air quality was improving slightly. But recently, pollution has been increasing again in the city’s air.

According to the data of the international air quality technology company IQAir at around 7:45 am on Friday (January 2), the capital Dhaka is in the fourth position in the list of the most polluted cities in the world with a score of 173. This air quality score is considered ‘unhealthy’.

At the same time, Kolkata, India, is at the top of the list of the most polluted cities in the world with a score of 213. This air quality score is ‘very unhealthy’.

The second place on the list is occupied by the city of Athens in Greece with a score of 196. On the other hand, Karachi in Pakistan is in the third position with a score of 175 and another city of the country, Lahore, is in the fifth position with a score of 173.

An AQI score of 50 is considered better than zero. A score of 51 to 100 is considered moderate, while a score of 101 to 150 is considered unhealthy for sensitive groups. A score of 151 to 200 is considered ‘unhealthy’ air.

An AQI score of 201 to 300 is called ‘very unhealthy’. In this condition, children, the elderly and the sick are advised to stay indoors and others are advised to limit their outdoor activities. Furthermore, an AQI of 301 to 400 is considered ‘hazardous’, posing a serious health risk to city dwellers.
