World music legend Jamaican drummer Sly Dunbar has died. He was 73 at the time of his death. Dunbar’s death was confirmed by his wife Thelma.
Thelma told Jamaican newspaper The Gleaner that her husband was found unconscious on Monday morning (January 26). His spokesman later confirmed the death. Although the exact cause of death is not known, his wife said that he had been ill for some time.

Dunbar is primarily known worldwide for the production duo ‘Sly and Robbie’. The duo has produced many popular songs for rock and pop stars such as Peter Tosh, Black Uhuru, as well as Bob Dylan, Grace Jones and Ian Dury.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Dunbar began playing drums with tin cans as a child. His rise to fame came when he met bassist Robbie Shakespeare as a teenager.
