Football began at La Masia. Barcelona’s famous academy graduate Firmin Lopez has extended his contract with the Catalan club.
Barcelona confirmed the extension of Lopez’s contract in an official announcement today. Lopez will remain at the Spanish giants with a two-year contract extension until June 30, 2031.
Lopez signed a contract with Barcelona in October 2024, which was due to expire in June 2029. According to Spanish media reports, it has been extended for another two years by increasing his salary and adding bonuses for performance.
Chelsea have long been interested in bringing this talented Spanish midfielder to the team. Despite speculation surrounding Firmin, who left Real Betis in 2016 and joined La Masia at the age of 16, he ultimately decided to stay at Camp Nou.
Firmino has played 26 games for Barca in all competitions this season, starting 18 of them. He has contributed 21 goals in a stellar 2025-26 campaign – 10 goals scored and 11 assists for his teammates. Only Lamine Yamal (12 goals, 12 assists) has contributed more goals for Barca this season.
Firmino and Yamal are among only four players to reach double figures in both goals and assists in Europe’s top five leagues this season. The other two are from Bayern Munich – Luis Diaz (14 goals, 11 assists) and Michael Oliseh (16 goals, 20 assists).
