People of Greenland will be happy if they become part of the US: Trump

US President Donald Trump has warned that even if the threat of tariffs to seize Greenland fails, there is an ‘other path’ open. At a press conference at the White House, Trump claimed that the people of Greenland would be very happy if they became part of the US.

Donald Trump organized a special press conference at the White House to mark the first year of his inauguration as the US president. At that time, in response to a question about how far he was ready to go to acquire Greenland, Trump said, ‘We will know when the time comes.’

If the Supreme Court opposes his tariff plan, he also hinted at using ‘another path’.

Trump also claimed that if Greenland falls under the US, the Western military alliance NATO will be in an advantageous position and the people of Greenland will be very happy if it becomes part of the US.

Meanwhile, Trump has published a screenshot of a personal message sent by the French president on social media. In that message, Macron said that he could organize a meeting of the G-7 member countries in Paris on Thursday after the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos, Switzerland. He will invite representatives of Ukraine, Denmark and Russia there. He then invited Trump to dinner in Paris.

Trump has made it clear that he will not attend the emergency G-7 summit, although he will attend all other meetings on the Greenland issue.

European leaders have condemned the unilateral US attempt to seize Greenland.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen told parliament that it is possible to discuss political, security, investment and economic issues; but there will be no negotiations on sovereignty, national identity, borders and democracy.

French President Emmanuel Macron has called the US a “bully” or stubborn. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney strongly agreed with Denmark on preserving Greenland’s sole right to determine its future.
