At the consumer level, the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in the private sector increased by 4 taka and 21 paisa per kilogram.
The price of a 12 kg cylinder for the current month of February has been fixed at 1,356 taka. Last month (January 2026) the price was 1,306 taka. That is, the price of 12 kg has increased by 50 taka in February. Last month the price increased by 53 taka.
Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) Chairman Jalal Ahmed announced the new prices at a press conference on Monday. The new prices will be effective from 6 pm today.
The company fixes the price of LPG every month. However, LPG is not being sold at the fixed price in the market. The 12 kg cylinder of LPG is most commonly used for household purposes. However, there has been a supply crisis of LPG for more than a month. LPG sellers are charging 800 to 1,000 taka more per cylinder.
Responding to questions from journalists, BERC Chairman Jalal Ahmed said, “The issue of high prices is understandable because of the price fixing. The commission is announcing prices according to the law. Due to low supply in the market, it is being sold at high prices. Efforts are being made to increase imports.”
According to the new BERC rates, the price of private LPG, including value added tax (VAT), has been fixed at Tk 113.4 per kg. Last month, it was Tk 108.83. This means that the price has increased by Tk 4.42 per kg this month.
This will determine the price of LPG cylinders of different sizes. LPG cylinders of different sizes are available in the market.
The price of a 12.5 kg cylinder of LPG supplied by government companies has been kept unchanged at Tk 825. On the other hand, the price of LPG (auto gas) used in vehicles has been fixed at Tk 62.14 per liter. Last month, it was Tk 59.80.
BERC has been setting LPG prices since April 2021. Propane and butane, the main ingredients in LPG, are imported from various countries. The prices of these two LPG ingredients are published every month by Saudi Aramco. This is known as the Saudi Cargo Price (CP).
BERC adjusts LPG prices in the country using this Saudi CP as the base price. BERC calculates the dollar price for the entire month by averaging the invoice price from the importing company.
