The administration of President Donald Trump is planning to keep about 80,000 detained illegal immigrants in warehouses in the United States. 22 warehouses will be built across the United States for detained immigrants for the purpose of repatriation or deportation. This news was reported in a report by the American media outlet Washington Post.
Trump has tightened immigration policy since coming to power for the second term. Illegal immigrants are being detained and sent back to the country. In continuation of this, a plan to build warehouses for illegal immigrants has been taken up.
According to the report, the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Department has sought the help of contractors to set up at least 22 warehouses to keep detainees. Currently, more than 70,000 immigrants are detained, the highest number in US history. All of them will be sent back to their respective countries by 2026.
Seven large-scale holding centers will be set up in renovated industrial warehouses in important cities, including two in Texas. Each center will house between 5,000 and 10,000 detainees, from which immigrants will be deported.
The Washington Post reports that the warehouses will be made up of 15 smaller centers, each housing between 500 and 1,500 people. The massive warehouses will be located near major logistics hubs in Virginia, Texas, Louisiana, Arizona, Georgia and Missouri.
