After the arrest of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro in a large-scale military operation, US President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Colombian President Gustavo Petro. CNN reported this information on Saturday (January 3).
Trump gave this warning in response to Petro’s recent comments about the possible impact of the operation to arrest Maduro. Colombian President Petro said that he is not worried about the consequences of the operation. In response to reporters’ questions at a press conference at Mar-a-Lago on Saturday, Trump said, “He has a cocaine factory. He is making cocaine and sending it to the United States.”
After this statement, Trump added in even more stern language, “So he has to be careful about himself.” It is believed that Trump’s warning after the Venezuela operation may increase tensions in Latin American politics.
The US president also said he was prepared to launch a second “much larger attack” on Venezuela if necessary. However, he said a second attack may not be necessary given the success of the first operation.
