The US diplomatic efforts to end the war amid the exchange of attacks continue. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the US wants to end the Russia-Ukraine war by June.
Zelensky said these things in a conversation with journalists published by the Ukrainian President’s Office on Saturday (February 7) local time.
The Ukrainian president said that Ukraine and Russia have been invited to talks next week, and Ukraine has agreed to it. Zelensky also said that the possible meeting could be held in Miami, USA.
He also said that the US is proposing that both sides end the war before the start of summer and they will probably put pressure on them to comply with this schedule. The mid-term congressional elections are certainly more important to them. Let’s not be stupid. And they say they want to end everything by June.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said that good talks are underway to end the Russia-Ukraine war. Speaking to reporters on Air Force One, he did not provide details of the talks. Meanwhile, Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff said the United States, Ukraine and Russia have agreed to a prisoner exchange that will see the release of 314 prisoners.
Despite extensive diplomatic efforts to end the war, the exchange of fire has continued. Russia launched drone strikes in the Kiev region of Ukraine early Saturday morning, setting fire to a warehouse and logistics complex in the city of Yahotyn.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia launched more than 400 drones and about 40 different types of missiles overnight. The main targets were power generation and distribution systems. Ukraine’s energy minister said the strikes on thermal power plants and high-power substations and transmission lines had forced the reduction of nuclear power plants and shut down one unit.
Meanwhile, Moscow claims that it has used precision weapons to hit energy and transport infrastructure in response to the so-called “terrorist attack” in Ukraine. The Russian Defense Ministry said that long-range weapons, including Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, hit the target. According to renewable energy experts, Europe’s largest 750 kV substation was also hit for the first time.
