Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has appealed to the international community for air defense, a day after seven people were killed in a Russian attack in Kiev.
Russia launched missile attacks on several residential buildings in Kiev on Friday. Seven people, including a woman, were killed. Among the dead was Natalia Khodinmchuk, the wife of operator Viktor, who died in the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident. At the time of the accident, Ukraine was part of the then Soviet Union. Therefore, Zelensky expressed particular anger at the death of Viktor’s wife after nearly four decades due to Russia.
At least four people were killed in a Russian attack in southern Ukraine on Saturday, local authorities said. Russia has been attacking Ukraine like this for almost four years. In this situation, concerns are growing about the country’s energy security ahead of the upcoming winter season.
Zelensky wrote on social media, “Ukraine needs life-saving assistance. We need more air defenses, more security and a firm stance from our partners.’
Ukraine said on Saturday it had struck a Russian oil refinery in the Ryazan region near Moscow. The Ukrainian military said the strike was carried out to reduce the enemy’s missile and bomb capabilities.
Ryazan Governor Pavel Malikov said 25 Ukrainian drones had been shot down overnight. One of the drones fell and set fire to a facility, but there were no casualties.
