Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he was ready to work with Washington on a plan to end the war with Russia, saying he hoped to discuss it with President Donald Trump in the coming days. Zelensky made the remarks after talks with a top US military official on Thursday (November 20).
Reuters reported that European countries are pushing back against the US-backed plan, which would require Kiev to give up more land and partially disarm. Ukraine’s allies have long seen the situation as tantamount to surrender.
But Zelensky, whose office said he had received a draft of the plan, said after meeting US Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll in Kiev that Ukraine and Washington would work together on it.
“Our team – Ukraine and the United States – will work on the content of the plan to end the war, we are ready for constructive, honest and quick work,” Zelensky wrote in the telegram.
Zelensky’s office did not comment directly on the content of the 28-point plan, which has not yet been published. But said it outlined the basic principles important for our people.
“In the future, Ukrainian President Zelensky looks forward to discussing with Trump the existing diplomatic opportunities and the key issues necessary to achieve peace,” it said.
Meanwhile, White House press secretary Carolyn Leavitt told a news briefing that Secretary of State Marco Rubio and US special envoy Steve Witkoff have been quietly working on the plan for about a month, and that Trump supports the plan.
“This is a good plan for both Russia and Ukraine, and we believe that it will be acceptable to both sides,” she said.
Caroline also commented that the United States is equally involved with the Ukrainians and the Russians regarding this agreement.
