Captain Aaron Finch was the hero of Melbourne Renegades’ victory with an unbeaten century in the run chase against Melbourne Stars in the second season of the Big Bash. Years passed, but no one else in the team was able to taste a century. The long wait of 13 years and 12 seasons was finally over. Tim Seifert scored a century with a killer batting.
Seifert played a devastating innings of 102 runs off 56 balls for Renegades against Brisbane Heat in the second match of the 15th season of the Australian T20 competition. The New Zealand batsman’s fifth century innings in twenty-over cricket was hit by 9 fours and 6 sixes.
This is the first century of this season. The 53-ball century came with less than 24 hours left before the 2026 IPL auction. The franchises may be a little more interested in Seifert at the auction table now. The 31-year-old batsman is listed with a base price of Rs 1.5 crore.
Seifert, however, has not been able to do much in the IPL so far. In the 2021 season, he scored 2 runs for Kolkata Knight Riders when he got a chance to play a match. Next year, he can score 24 runs in two matches for Delhi Capitals.
On Monday in Victoria, Seifert’s century and Oliver Peake’s fifty (57 off 29 balls) helped the Renegades post 212 for 5. In reply, the Brisbane Heat could go up to 198. Renegades started their campaign with a 14-run win.
Seifert got the first strike in the second over of the match. He got his first run when he hit Shaheen Shah Afridi for a four off the fourth ball. After one ball, he hit another four off the Pakistani pacer.
Seifert made his fifty in 30 balls. In the 18th over, he took two runs off a high full toss from Afridi and reached three figures in 53 balls. In that over, Afridi was removed from bowling after being hit by another ‘bimmer’.
Seifert’s brilliant innings ended when he was caught by the keeper in the 19th over.
