Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has warned of strict action against noise pollution in the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport area declared as a silent zone.
“No noise pollution will be tolerated in the airport area, and violators will face legal action,” said DNCC Administrator Safiqul Islam Khan today (June 5) at Gulshan-2 Circle in Dhaka.
He made the remarks while addressing a noise-awareness rally and gathering marking World Environment Day.
The programme was jointly organised by DNCC, the Department of Environment (DoE), Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA).
Safiqul Islam said the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport area has been declared a silent zone and strict enforcement will begin immediately.
He added that Gulshan, Banani, Niketan and Baridhara have also been designated as silent zones and stressed the need for public cooperation to reduce noise and air pollution.
Director General of the Department of Environment Dr Lutfor Rahman highlighted various initiatives taken to control noise pollution.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) of DMP Anisur Rahman said the Traffic Division has strengthened its drive against noise pollution after being empowered under the Noise Pollution Control Rules, 2025.
He expressed hope that these measures will benefit city residents and urged all citizens to cooperate in maintaining noise control.
Representatives from local communities, government agencies, environmental groups and civil society attended the programme.
