Jet fuel prices jump in Bangladesh

Bangladesh has raised jet fuel prices by Tk 17.29 per litre for March as the Middle East conflict worsens the global energy crisis.

The price of jet fuel for domestic flights has been set at Tk 112.41 per litre including duty and VAT from Tk 95.12, the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) said yesterday (March 8).

On the other hand, the price for international flights operated by domestic and foreign airlines has been set at 73 cents per litre, excluding duty and VAT.

The new prices will remain effective until further notice, the BERC said.

Bangladeshi buyers on domestic routes and local and foreign buyers on international flights are served by Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (Dhaka), Hazrat Shah Amanat International Airport (Chattogram), Osmani International Airport (Sylhet), Jashore Airport, Cox’s Bazar Airport, and any future airports.

Bangladesh, which relies on imports for 95% of its energy needs, imposed daily limits on fuel sales on Friday to curb panic buying and stockpiling driven by concerns about energy supply.

Due to severe gas shortages, the country was forced to suspend operations at four of its five state‑run fertiliser factories, redirecting available gas to power plants to help avoid widespread outages.

Bangladesh has also bought LNG from the spot market at sharply higher prices while seeking additional cargoes to bridge supply gaps.
