The Marvel Cinematic Universe is gearing up for one of its most ambitious theatrical events of the year. Fans eager for a glimpse into the next major crossover won’t have to wait until December. Co-director Joe Russo has officially confirmed that the upcoming theatrical re-release of Avengers: Endgame will feature brand-new, never-before-seen footage that directly ties into the highly anticipated sequel, Avengers: Doomsday.
Speaking at the Sands Film Festival in Scotland following a major presentation at CinemaCon 2026, Russo revealed that the historic 2019 blockbuster is returning to the big screen with a critical narrative upgrade. The newly added scenes are designed to serve as a vital connective tissue for the franchise’s expanding multiverse.
“It’s critically important to re-release the movie, and, in fact, we’ll be re-releasing the film with footage that is set in the Doomsday story that we have added to Avengers: Endgame,” Russo explained to attendees. “It’s an opportunity to create a bridge from Endgame to Doomsday in a very unique way”.
Scheduled to hit theaters on September 25, 2026, the Endgame re-release will arrive less than three months before Avengers: Doomsday closes out the year on December 18. The move is a strategic play by Marvel Studios to reignite massive fan excitement and establish the high stakes for Doomsday. The December blockbuster will feature an enormous ensemble cast and mark Robert Downey Jr.’s shocking return to the MCU—this time pivoting from a hero to the villainous Victor Von Doom.
In addition to the expanded storyline, audiences will experience the cinematic epic in a groundbreaking way. Disney recently unveiled “Infinity Vision,” a new certification for premium large-format (PLF) theaters that promises superior laser projection, immersive audio, and maximum screen scale. Both the Endgame re-release and Doomsday will be presented in this state-of-the-art format, giving fans the ultimate viewing experience as an alternative to IMAX (which will be occupied by Dune: Part Three during the same window).
As Marvel Studios continues to pioneer interconnected storytelling on a massive scale, this upcoming re-release represents a rare chance for audiences to revisit a beloved classic while simultaneously stepping into the future of the MCU. Whether you’re a long-time follower or a newcomer to the multiverse, September 25 is officially shaping up to be a mandatory trip to the theaters.
