KHAGRACHHARI: A special patrol team of the Panchari Battalion (3 BGB) recovered a massive cache of ammunition following a high-stakes operation in the remote hills of Khagrachhari on Friday night (April 10). The operation, which led to the seizure of 1,400 rounds of live ammunition, culminated in a tense face-off between border guards and over a hundred armed insurgents.
Acting on intelligence regarding an arms smuggling attempt by a terrorist group, a BGB team led by Naib Subedar Mohammad Shah Alam of the Bouddha Monipara BOP took positions near the Kathaltoli passenger shed. At approximately 8:00 PM, the team challenged four individuals on two motorcycles. The suspects abandoned their vehicles and fled into the dense forest. A subsequent search of the site revealed 1,400 rounds of fresh 7.62mm SMG ammunition and the two motorcycles.
The situation turned critical during the extraction phase when the BGB patrol was surrounded by an estimated 100–110 armed terrorists attempting to intercept the seized munitions. Demonstrating immense restraint and tactical expertise, the BGB members held their ground until reinforcements arrived. A backup force, led by Acting Commandant Major S. M. Imrul Kayes, rushed from the battalion headquarters, forcing the insurgents to retreat into the deep hills.
