Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain paid deep floral tributes to the heroic martyrs of the Great Liberation War on the occasion of Independence and National Day. He expressed his firm expectation that under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Bangladesh will emerge as a self-reliant and corruption-free state.

​The Mayor placed a wreath at the city’s Liberation War Memorial Monument at sunrise today (March 26). Following the ceremony, while speaking to journalists, Dr. Shahadat recalled the supreme sacrifices of the martyrs with profound gratitude. He emphasized that the nation would never forget those who laid down their lives for independence in 1971. He also paid homage to the proclaimer of independence from Chattogram’s Kalurghat Radio Station, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, and all valiant freedom fighters.

​Marking the anniversary of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Dr. Shahadat Hossain noted that while achieving independence was a monumental feat, protecting it remains a greater challenge. Furthermore, he announced plans to preserve historic sites in Chattogram, including Biplob Uddan, Kalurghat Radio Station, and the Zia Memorial Museum, to ensure the next generation learns the authentic history of the liberation struggle. He called for inter-ministerial coordination to overcome administrative hurdles in preserving these landmarks.

​The event was attended by senior CCC officials, including Acting Chief Executive Officer and Secretary Md. Ashraful Amin, Chief Revenue Officer Sarwar Kamal, Chief Education Officer Dr. Kissinger Chakma, Chief Engineer Anisur Rahman and Chief Health Officer Dr. Md. Imam Hossain Rana among others.
