McTominay to miss Scotland games with minor heart issue

MT News Desk

Scotland midfielder Scott McTominay is to have a minor heart procedure after the discovery of “a mild benign arrhythmia”, Napoli have announced.

The 29-year-old was subsituted after 56 minutes of Sunday’s 2-1 Serie A defeat by Como and will have corrective treatment “in the coming days”.

Napoli expect him to return to playing after the international break in early October.

However, it means that McTominay is likely to miss Sebastien Pocognoli’s first four games as Scotland head coach, against Slovenia (home and away), North Macedonia and Switzerland in the Nations League.

According to the NHS,, external an arrhythmia is when the heart beats too quickly or too slowly, or the heartbeat is not steady.

Napoli say McTominay will undergo cardiac arrhythmia ablation – which the British Heart Foundation explains, external is when heat or cold energy is used to create tiny scars in the heart to block faulty signals and restore a typical heartbeat.
