Fakhrul says BNP’s National Council will be held this year

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) next National Council will be held this year, senior leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said.

He spoke at the BNP chief’s office in Gulshan on Wednesday night.

The secretary general said, “The BNP [National Council] will be held within this year. We have not fixed the date yet, but I believe the council will take place soon.”

The party’s last council was held in 2016.

When asked about party activities after the formation of the government, Fakhrul replied: “We are working, albeit in small ways. It took a month to form the government.

“Many party members have joined the government, and it will take time to organise activities there. This is not an isolated issue. The government will do its work, the party will do its work.”

During the session, Fakhrul also addressed questions on the current political situation, parliamentary affairs, local government elections, government achievements, university vice-chancellor appointments, and the economic outlook.

It was Fakhrul’s first opinion exchange meeting after taking office as the local government minister.
