A strong stance against all forms of crime has been announced in Karnaphuli Upazila, as Member of Parliament Sarwar Jamal Nizam declared a strict position against mob violence, terrorism, drug trafficking, and extortion. The MP, who represents the Chattogram‑13 (Anwara–Karnaphuli) constituency, made it clear that no criminal will be spared regardless of their identity or influence.
He made the statement on Monday (March 9) while addressing the Upazila Law and Order Committee meeting held at the Karnaphuli Upazila Parishad auditorium as the chief guest. The meeting was chaired by Sajib Kanti Rudra, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Karnaphuli. Representatives from the administration, law enforcement agencies, political leaders, and members of the law and order committee were present at the meeting.
In his speech, MP Sarwar Jamal Nizam emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and security in the upazila. He stated that strict action will be taken against anyone involved in creating mobs, spreading violence, engaging in drug trade, or committing extortion. According to him, ensuring a safe and peaceful Karnaphuli requires firm action by both the administration and law enforcement agencies.
He further said that the identity of a criminal is simply that—someone who commits a crime. “Whoever the criminal is, there will be no leniency. Even those who try to defend or support criminals should not be spared,” he said, urging law enforcement agencies to take firm and impartial action against offenders.
The MP also warned against taking the law into one’s own hands. He said that any attempt to create instability or disrupt peace in the area would be dealt with strictly under the law. He assured that the administration would receive full support in its efforts to curb crime and maintain law and order in the upazila.
During the meeting, participants discussed the overall law and order situation in Karnaphuli, focusing on issues such as drug prevention, traffic congestion, and public safety. Speakers stressed the need for coordinated efforts among police, the administration, and elected representatives to maintain a stable and secure environment in the area.
Among those present at the meeting were South District BNP Senior Joint Convener Ali Abbas, Shahwaz Nizam Soni, and former Vice President of District BNP Advocate SM Forkan, along with officials from various government departments and representatives of law enforcement agencies.
The speakers at the meeting emphasized that ensuring a crime-free society is not the responsibility of the administration alone. They called on local residents to remain vigilant and play an active role in preventing crime and drug abuse in their communities.
Participants expressed hope that through collective efforts by the administration, law enforcement agencies, public representatives, and the local community, Karnaphuli Upazila can be transformed into a safe, peaceful, and crime-free area.
