The fourth annual picnic of the UK-based organisation Bangladesh Buddhist Council UK was held on August 4, Tuesday. About 60 members and well-wishers participated in the event organised in Holland-on-Sea, a coastal area of England.
The journey started from Ilford, London by bus at 10 am. Along with breakfast and drinks, musical performances were held on the bus. Child artist Sudeshna Barua Chowdhury, Aparna Barua, Ananda Singh, Priyanka Barua, Supta Barua, Nandita Barua, Biswajit Barua, Bikash Barua, Tilak Barua, Arpan Barua and guest artist Ranjit Barua participated in it.
When the bus reached Holland-on-Sea in the afternoon, the participants spent time on the sea beach, trees and playground. Later, lunch was served with pilao, chicken roast, fried eggs and salad prepared by Apan Mutsuddi.
After the lunch, various sports and entertainment competitions were held with the participation of children, women and men. These included children’s games, a symbolic game with the participation of couples, women’s musical pillow and men’s penalty shot competition. The sports competitions were conducted by Tiplu Barua, Shipon Barua and Ujjwal Barua.
In the afternoon, the participants spent time on the beach and took photographs. Later, a friendly football match was held which ended in a goalless draw.
Then, after serving tea, coffee and biscuits, a riddle and question and answer session was held. Prizes were distributed among the winners of various competitions throughout the day.
The award ceremony was addressed by Bangladesh Buddhist Council UK Adviser Tushar Kanti Barua, Executive Adviser Sajib Chowdhury, Vice President Debprasad Barua, Chandan Barua, Tiplu Barua, Sulekha Barua, President Sumon Barua Chowdhury, General Secretary Biswajit Barua and Senior Organising Secretary Ujjal Barua and guest Ranjit Barua.
In the closing session, organising committee members Shipon Barua, Shimul Barua, Ananda Singha and Apan Mutsuddi highlighted the overall aspects of the picnic and thanked all the participants for their success.
At around 9 pm, the bus left for London. On the way back, a song competition was also held with the participation of women and men’s teams.
