A devastating fire completely gutted a residential house at Bahar Majhi’s homestead in Ward No. 4 under Bauria Union of Sandwip Upazila on Wednesday afternoon (September 9, 2026).

According to affected family member Nazrul Islam, the blaze erupted suddenly inside the residence and engulfed the entire structure within moments. All household furniture, essential belongings, and cash were reduced to ashes. The family estimates the total financial loss to be over Tk 1 lakh, leaving them destitute following the loss of their home and possessions.

Upon receiving the alarm, a team from the Sandwip Fire Service and Civil Defense rushed to the spot and managed to bring the fire under control, preventing it from spreading to nearby homes in the remote coastal area.

Confirming the incident, Sandwip Fire Service and Civil Defense Acting Officer Moin Uddin stated that firefighters responded promptly to the emergency call to extinguish the flames. Preliminary investigations suggest that an electrical short circuit triggered the blaze.
