Members of the Village Defence Party (VDP) detained two Bangladeshi women while they were attempting to cross into India illegally through the Fulgazi border in Feni. After being handed over to the police via Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), a local court ordered them sent to prison on Saturday afternoon (August 15, 2026). The detention took place on Friday night in the Madhya Kamalla area near the Noapur border in Fulgazi Upazila.
Operations identify the detainees as Sona Lakshmi (70), wife of the late Sudhir Das from Nayakhali area in Mehendiganj Upazila of Barishal and Shantana (40), wife of Bishu Das from Dolgoni village in Bakaibaria Union under Chitalmari Upazila of Bagerhat.
According to BGB sources, VDP members apprehended the two women inside Bangladeshi territory in Madhya Kamalla, adjacent to border pillar 2131-7 S under the jurisdiction of the Noapur Border Outpost (BOP) of 10 BGB. Following their detention, the VDP handed them over to the Noapur BOP BGB personnel, who subsequently transferred them into the custody of the Fulgazi Police Station.
Confirming the matter, Fulgazi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Shaheen Miah stated that both women had previously resided in India and were caught while attempting to re-enter the country illegally from Bangladesh. A case was filed against them under the relevant passport and border laws, after which they were produced before the court and remanded to the Feni District Jail on Saturday.
