Shama Obayed, the Honorable State Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, conducted a comprehensive day-long visit to the Rohingya camps in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, on Wednesday (06 May, 2026) to monitor humanitarian operations and essential services.

The State Minister arrived at Rohingya Camp-7 on Wednesday morning to begin her scheduled programs. Her first stop, from 10:15 AM to 10:55 AM, was the WFP-funded Food Distribution Center (e-voucher outlet) operated by CODEC at Camp-4. During this visit, officials briefed her on the data card-based ration collection system. Minister Obayed personally interacted with Rohingya refugees to assess the quality of food items and the efficiency of the supply chain.

Following the food center visit, she inspected the LPG Distribution Point at Camp-4, operated by BDRCS with funding from UNHCR. From 11:05 AM to 11:30 AM, she reviewed the gas cylinder distribution and storage processes, providing specific instructions regarding safety and management protocols.

Between 11:35 AM and 12:05 PM, the State Minister held a meeting with the President and members of the United Council of Rohingya (UCR) at the Camp-4 CIC office. The discussion focused on the current situation in the camps, the repatriation process and the refugees’ aspirations to return to their homeland. Rohingya leaders expressed their gratitude and sought continued support from the Bangladesh government.

The Minister then moved to the MSF Hospital in Camp-8 West, where she spent time from 12:20 PM to 12:50 PM. She observed the quality of medical care, met with patients and reviewed the free healthcare services provided to the camp residents.

Continuing her visit, from 1:00 PM to 1:20 PM, she visited the UNICEF-funded Community Development Center and New Moon Learning Center at Camp-18. She spoke with students to gauge the quality of education being provided. Her final stop, from 1:50 PM to 2:05 PM, was a women’s hygiene product production center at the Kutupalong Registered Camp. There, she was briefed on skill development initiatives, sewing training, and the production of health supplies by Rohingya women.

The State Minister departed for Cox’s Bazar at 2:10 PM. Throughout the inspection, she was accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as local administrative and camp authorities.
