Two UK-based organisations- Greater Manchester Chattogram Shomiti (GMCS) and voluntary organisation Work for Smile distributed emergency food items and essential goods to flood-affected people in the Kartpara area under ​​Banshkhali upazila of Chattogram.

They jointly provided this assistance to about 3,500 people stranded in the flood on July 15.

Greater Manchester Chattogram Shomiti Chairman Mohammad Khairuzzaman, Adviser Nasirul Alam, Former General Secretary of Bashundhara Samaj Kalyan Parishad Mohammad Moniruzzaman, President of Baitul Noor Jame Mosque Jewel Ahmed, community personality Nazrul Islam, Bangla TV’s Chattogram Bureau Chief Lokman Chowdhury, local personalities and community representatives were present on the occasion.

Seeing the plight of the flood-inflicted people during the relief distribution, Mohammad Khairuzzaman said, “This helpless condition of the people has deeply shocked us. Greater Manchester Chattogram Shomiti and Work for Smile will stand by these flood-affected people not only today but also until the flood waters recede completely and the rehabilitation is completed. Our next aim will be to provide all-out support in rebuilding the homes destroyed in the flood.”

Greater Manchester Chattogram Shomiti Adviser Nasirul Alam said, “We have always been, are and shall be with the helpless, poor and disaster-affected people in the future. Our commitment is to work for the welfare of the people.”

The two organisations have made a sincere appeal to all well-wishers, charitable individuals, businessmen and social organisations based at home and abroad to come forward to help reduce the miseries of the flood-affected people.
