The body of a 24-year-old youth named Md. Sakib, who went missing while bathing in the Muhuri River in Feni, was recovered today, Sunday (July 5, 2026), nearly 20 hours after the tragic incident. His floating body was found around 10:00 AM in the river section adjacent to Modhyom Sri Chandrapur village under Phulgazi Upazila, bordering Parshuram.
Earlier, on Saturday (July 4) around 1:30 PM, Sakib was swept away by strong currents while bathing in the Muhuri River at Paschim Olka Jongolghona village under Chitholia Union in Parshuram Upazila. The deceased, Md. Sakib, was the son of Mohammad Ali Hossain, hailing from Nangalkot Upazila in Cumilla. He lived with his family in a rented house in Chattogram city and had arrived at his late maternal grandfather Suruj Miah’s house in Dokshin Jongolghona on Friday for a visit.
According to local and eyewitness sources, Sakib went to the nearby Muhuri River on Saturday afternoon to bathe along with two local women. After taking two consecutive dives into the water, he failed to resurface. Hearing the screams of a woman named Maya, nearby residents rushed to the spot and launched a search. Upon receiving the news, a rescue team from the Parshuram Fire Service swiftly arrived at the scene to initiate primary rescue operations. However, the heavy currents and riverbank erosion significantly hindered their efforts. Later, a specialized diving team of the Fire Service arrived from Chattogram to join the operation. They conducted an extensive search until 8:00 PM on Saturday but had to suspend operations for the night after finding no trace of him.
Finally, at around 10:00 AM today, local residents spotted a body floating downstream in the Muhuri River at Modhyom Sri Chandrapur village in Phulgazi. Relatives later rushed to the spot and identified it as Sakib’s body. The tragic demise has cast a deep shadow of grief over the victim’s family and the entire Jongolghona village.
Parshuram Fire Service Station Officer Mustafizur Rahman confirmed the matter, stating that family members informed them that locals retrieved the body from the Muhuri River in Phulgazi’s Modhyom Sri Chandrapur village on Sunday afternoon.
