There is no shortage of fuel or edible oil in the country, says Commerce Adviser Khandaker Abdul Muktadir.

There is an adequate stock of edible oil and its supply in the market remains normal,” he said today (March 9).

However, Muktadir said that edible oil had temporarily run out in some places due to panic buying.

He urged consumers not to panic and avoid purchasing excessive amounts of edible oil.

Muktadir said the price of edible oil will not increase under the current situation. Authorities will intensify drives across the country to keep the market stable.

He also said that the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection will continue its monitoring operations in markets.

Bangladesh consumes roughly 3 to 3.3 million tonnes of edible oil every year. Per capita consumption is around 17–18 kilograms annually. Around 90% of edible oil is imported, primarily palm oil from Malaysia and Indonesia and soybean oil from Brazil and Argentina.
