Above-normal rainfall is likely  to occur across the northeastern haor basin and adjoining upstream regions over the next seven days (24–31 March 2026), Flood Forecasting and Warning Center said in a special bulletin today.

Total accumulated rainfall during this period may reach 100–150 mm in some areas.

As a result, water levels in the major rivers and their tributaries in the haor basin may remain stable initially and could begin to rise toward the end of the week (see Table-1 for details).

However, river levels are expected to remain below pre-monsoon danger thresholds during this period.

In the following three days (1–3 April), rainfall is likely to increase further.

Water levels in the major rivers of the haor basin in northeastern Bangladesh—namely the Surma-Kushiyara, Bhugai-Kangsha, and Dhanu-Baulai rivers—are currently declining and flowing below pre-monsoon danger levels.

According to data from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department and global weather agencies, normal rainfall has been observed over the haor basin and its upstream areas during the past seven days.
