Ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Azha, Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali has stepped into the field to oversee the overall security and management of cattle markets across Chattogram city. On Monday, he visited two major cattle markets — Bibirhat and Moijjartek cattle market in Karnaphuli.

During the visit, the CMP Commissioner inspected security arrangements, traffic management, facilities for buyers and sellers, and the overall law and order situation at the markets. He also spoke with traders, leaseholders, farmers, and general buyers, listening to their concerns and suggestions.

The CMP Commissioner said, “CMP is on maximum alert to prevent any untoward incidents, extortion, fraud, or public harassment centering around the cattle markets. Special security measures have been taken to ensure the safety of cattle traders and buyers coming from distant areas.”

He further added, “If buyers or sellers face any problem or require legal assistance, they can immediately contact the temporary CMP control room at the cattle market. Mobile police teams and patrol units will remain active round the clock.”

During the inspection, the CMP Commissioner highly praised the management committee of the Moijjartek cattle market. He said, “The way the Moijjartek cattle market management committee has ensured discipline, security, cleanliness, and necessary facilities for buyers and sellers is truly commendable. The committee is managing the entire operation very efficiently.”

He also thanked the market management committee and related authorities, saying, “Alongside law enforcement agencies, the market authorities are also working sincerely, which is allowing people to buy and sell cattle comfortably.”

Market sources said that cattle traders from different districts of the country have already brought cows, buffaloes, and goats to the Moijjartek cattle market. Trading activities are continuing from morning till late night every day. Additional security, adequate lighting, pure drinking water, temporary toilets, parking facilities, and volunteer teams have also been arranged at the market.

Meanwhile, the CMP Commissioner issued a stern warning to leaseholders, saying, “If any অভিযোগ of excessive toll collection or harassment of the public is found, strict legal action will be taken against those responsible.”

Among others present during the visit were CMP Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) and Acting Commissioner (Administration & Finance) Wahidul Haque Chowdhury, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Sadar) Md. Ferdous Ali Chowdhury, BPM, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic-North) Nesar Uddin Ahmed, PPM, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Port) Md. Amirul Islam, along with other senior CMP officials.

According to concerned authorities, the administration and market management committees are working together this year to ensure strong security and a disciplined environment at cattle markets ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
