The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued a weather alert stating that a steep pressure gradient lies over the North Bay. Under its influence, squally weather is highly likely to affect the maritime ports, the North Bay, and the adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh. Consequently, the maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep local cautionary signal number three hoisted until further notice.

In light of the turbulent sea conditions, all fishing boats and trawlers operating in the North Bay have been directed to remain close to the coast and proceed with extreme caution. The Met Office has warned that the steep pressure system could create hazardous conditions for vessel operations further out at sea.

Meanwhile, inland weather conditions are also expected to deteriorate across several regions. The Met Office stated that rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary south or south-easterly gusty or squally winds, with speeds ranging from 45 to 60 kilometers per hour, are likely to sweep over the regions of Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Cumilla, Noakhali, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar and Sylhet. Due to the risk of sudden storms, riverports in these specific areas have been instructed to hoist cautionary signal number one.
