Colourful events mark 12th anniversary of Bouddha Chhayangan

Buddhist religious, social and cultural organisation Bouddha Chhayangan celebrated an era of successful journey in religion, education, culture and human welfare. Colourful events including day-long Atthaparikkhar, evening Sanghadan, recitation of sutras by monks, devotions and stories by children and teenagers, distribution of prizes for the ‘Buddhist Life Story in Words and Presentation’ competition, `Bouddha Chayangan Gunaratna Parents’ Award’, `Buddhist Youth Glory Award-2026’ and unveiling of the commemorative book ‘Bodhichaya’ were organised at the July Revolution Memorial Hall of the Chattogram Press Club on July 17, Friday on the occasion. The first part of the programme was presided over by the President of Bangladesh Bouddha Bhikkhu Mahasabha Sri Saddharmashasankirti Saddharmaratna Gyanananda Mahathero. The chief guest was the Secretary General of Bangladesh Bouddha Bhikkhu Mahasabha Pragyabaridhi Professor Sumedhananda Mahathero. The Organising Secretary of Bangladesh Bouddha Bhikkhu Mahasabha Bhadanta Sanghananda Mahathero delivered the sermon as the chief preacher. The special guests were Bhadanta Mettananda Thero, Bhadanta Jayashree Bhikkhu and Bhadanta Karunananda Bhikkhu. The second part was inaugurated by Chairman of Upendra-Bijoy Foundation Pradeep Kumar Barua. The cover of the commemorative book ‘Bodhichaya’ published on the occasion of the 12th anniversary of Bouddha Chhayangan was unveiled at the event. In addition, scholarships, certificates and commemorative mementos were presented to the winners of various competitions to encourage children and adolescents in religious and moral education. At the same time, 11 distinguished individuals were awarded the ‘Buddhist Youth Glory Award’ in recognition of their outstanding contributions in various fields of society and the parents of 51 members of the organisation were awarded the `Bouddha Chayangan Gunaratna Parents’ Award ‘. In the Sutra Recitation Competition of the sramanas Karunajyoti Sramana won the first place, Anantajyoti Sramana second place and Pragyajyoti Sramana third place. In the Vandana and Gatha Competition Chinmayi Barua won the first place, Prince Barua (Rup) second place and Triyan Barua third place. Shuchana Barua won the first place, Nilantika Barua second place and Sumedha Barua third place in the ‘D’ category of the ‘Buddhist Life Story in Words and Presentation’ competition. The speakers said that Bouddha Chhayangan has emerged as a trusted and well-known organisation in the Buddhist community through the practice of Dharma, moral education, social service, cultural development and human welfare activities since its inception in 2014. They hoped that it will make an important contribution to social welfare by further expanding the scope of service activities imbued with religious values ​​and humanitarian ideals also in the future.
