A joint operation conducted by the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) and Matiranga Police Station resulted in the arrest of a drug dealer along with 117 Yaba tablets in Matiranga Upazila today (Monday, August 24, 2026). The arrestee has been identified as Hafez Ahammed (50), a local Awami League leader of Matiranga Municipality and son of the late Ronju Miah, hailing from the Adarshagram Madhyapara area under Ward No. 4.
Acting on a tip-off around noon, joint law enforcement teams raided Hafez’s residence in Adarshagram Madhyapara and recovered the 117 Yaba pills from inside the house.
In a separate simultaneous drive in the same locality, officers detained two drug users, identified as Al Amin (32) and Riyad Hossain (30), after seizing seven Yaba tablets from their possession. Al Amin is the son of the late Khalilur Rahman, and Riyad Hossain is the son of the late Mohorram Ali; both are residents of Ward No. 2 under Gomatia Union.
Following their detention, Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Protiti Piya conducted a mobile court at the scene. Based on their confessions, the mobile court sentenced Al Amin to two days of simple imprisonment and Riyad Hossain to five days of simple imprisonment.
Confirming the drives, Matiranga Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Shahed Uddin stated that a regular case under the Narcotics Control Act is being filed against Hafez Ahammed, and he will be produced before the competent court following due legal procedures.
