Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Engineer Belayet Hossain highlighted journalists as the mirror of society, calling on media professionals to highlight Sandwip’s systemic issues, economic potential and rich historical heritage alongside constructive reporting. He made these remarks during a view-exchange meeting titled “Development Thoughts and Contemporary Issues of Sandwip,” organized by the Sandwip Press Club at the Sandwip Upazila Council hall today (Wednesday, August 26, 2026).
Addressing the gathering, the CDA Chairman acknowledged the significant contribution of the island’s expatriates, noting that the 13 percent of national remittance sent by Sandwip’s foreign wage earners plays a vital role in bolstering the national economy. He assured that implementation work on several government development projects targeting Sandwip’s infrastructure would commence shortly.
Presided over by Sandwip Press Club President Mozammel Hossain and moderated by Vice President Abul Hashem, the meeting provided a platform for comprehensive discussions on the island’s pressing concerns and future growth trajectories. Attendees included Sandwip Upazila Nirbahi Officer Amjad Hossain, Sandwip Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sujon Haldar, Upazila Engineer Saiful Islam, alongside local administrative officials and journalists. Speaking at the event, local representatives urged the CDA Chairman to prioritize transforming the historically overlooked island into a modern, eco-friendly hub.
