Discussion Held in Chattogram Marking International Right to Information Day

MT News Desk

A discussion meeting was held at the Agrabad Government Office Building-2 premises on Monday (September 28, 2026) to mark International Right to Information Day 2026. Organized by the Regional Information Office, Press Information Department (PID), Chattogram, the event was attended by Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Dr. Md. Ziauddin as the chief guest.

Addressing the meeting, the Divisional Commissioner emphasized that despite the existence of the Right to Information Act and related regulations, institutional and cultural shifts are essential to ensure the free flow of information to citizens. He stressed that government offices must become more citizen-centric and service-oriented, treating public information not as proprietary departmental property, but as a vital resource belonging to the public. He further highlighted that emerging threats like misinformation, disinformation, and deepfakes pose modern challenges to information management, which can be effectively countered by promoting absolute transparency.

Presided over by Deputy Chief Information Officer of PID Chattogram Bappi Chakraborty and moderated by Information Officer G.M. Saiful Islam, the program featured speeches from Director of Chattogram Government Welfare Board Md. Nizam Uddin, Principal Officer and Nautical Surveyor of Chattogram Mercantile Marine Office Captain Sheikh Jalal Uddin Gazi, and Deputy Chief Inspector of Explosives Dr. Md. Asadul Islam. Government officials, students, and journalists from print and electronic media were also present.
