Lions Club’s Humanitarian Initiative in Karnaphuli- with a Vision to Restore Sight

With a commitment to humanitarian service Lions Club of Chittagong Golden City organised a day-long free eye treatment camp for the second time in Ishanagar village of Chattogram’s Karnaphuli upazila. At the camp around 500 eye patients from various areas received free medical treatment. Alongside this, initiatives were also taken to provide free surgery for patients diagnosed with cataracts.

‎

‎The treatment camp organised by Lions Club of Chittagong Golden City with the overall cooperation of Lion Mahmudul Haque Sumon UP member Ward No. 8 Charpatharghata was held at his residence. Throughout the day-long event, patients who came from distant areas received eye examinations, consultations from physicians and necessary care.

‎

‎The chief guest at the programme was Lion Mohammad Hossain (Rana) MJF, Chairperson of Humanitarian Efforts for Lions District 315-B4 Bangladesh. Special guests included Region Chairperson Lion Alamgir Hossain (Babul), Lion Main Uddin Jilal MJF, Zone Chairperson Lion Md. Ziaul Haque Zia, and Abu Taher acting Chairman of Charpathorghata Union Parishad.

‎

‎Also present at the camp were the club’s Vice President Lion Saiful Islam, Secretary Lion Mohammad Hasanatuzzaman, Treasurer Lion Nurul Anwar (Selim), Membership Chairperson Lion Mafizur Rahman, Service Chairperson Lion Saifuddin, Marketing and Communication Chairperson Lion Abul Kashem, Club Director A. H. Mohammed Shah Alam, Lion Mohammad Sheikh Kamal, along with members of Leo Club of Chittagong Golden Star.

‎

‎Organisers said a similar eye treatment camp had been held in the same area in June this year. Among the patients treated at that camp around 50 were provided with free cataract surgery. This time as well, initiatives have been taken to bring patients diagnosed with cataracts under free surgical treatment.

‎

‎Lion Mahmudul Haque Sumon, a member of Lions Club of Chittagong Golden City said that, “Restoring people’s eyesight and standing by those in need are among the key goals of their humanitarian work. He added that, alongside various year-round service activities, they are working to ensure medical care for the poor and underprivileged.”  He also called on affluent and capable members of society to come forward for the welfare of the people.

‎

‎Volunteers from CPP (Cyclone Preparedness Programme) and leaders of the social organisation “Manobotar Shesh Ashroy” assisted at the eye treatment camp. With their support, patient registration, maintaining order, and various service activities were carried out.
